The anatomy

What goes into a custom mudroom built-in.

A mudroom built-in is a floor-to-ceiling storage unit built into your entryway, combining bench seating, coat storage, and closed cabinets in one piece. Unlike freestanding furniture, it is cut to your exact wall, anchored in place, and finished like the rest of your home.

Bench with storage

A solid bench for putting on shoes, with drawers or lift-top storage underneath for the gear you reach for every day.

Open lockers and hooks

A cubby per family member, each with hooks for coats and backpacks. Open lockers keep the daily grab-and-go visible; everyone knows whose is whose.

Closed cabinets

Doors hide what guests never need to see: sports gear, dog leashes, off-season layers. Upper cabinets hold what you touch twice a year.

Boot and shoe zone

A dedicated landing for wet boots and muddy cleats, so winter slush and spring mud stay by the door.

Drop zone

A slim counter or shelf for keys, mail, and phones. The clutter that used to live on the kitchen counter gets a home of its own.

Built-in vs. freestanding

Why built-in wins in an entryway.

Freestanding hall trees tip, wobble, and leave gaps that collect dirt. A built-in is anchored to the wall, sealed to the floor, and sized corner to corner, so there is no dead space to clean around. It is designed in 3D for your exact entryway, cut to order, and installed by our own team. And because it is built like cabinetry, it is backed by our lifetime warranty.

FAQ

Real questions. Straight answers.

How much does a custom mudroom built-in cost?

It depends on the size of your entryway and what goes in: bench only, or bench plus lockers, cabinets, and a drop zone. We measure your space, design it in 3D, and give you an exact price in writing at your free consultation, before you commit.

What is usually included in a mudroom built-in?

Most builds combine a storage bench, hooks or open lockers for each family member, closed cabinets for gear, and a boot zone. Drop-zone counters and drawers are common additions. Every layout is designed around your entryway and your routine.

Can you build a mudroom in a small entryway?

Yes. A built-in earns its keep fastest in tight spaces, because it uses the full height of the wall and every inch of width. Even a narrow wall can hold a bench, hooks, and upper cabinets.

How long does a mudroom built-in take?

Most mudrooms are built in 2 to 3 weeks after you approve the 3D design, then installed by our own team.

What finishes work in a mudroom?

Finishes in your choice of color, from bright white to warm wood tones and muted greens. Every door style is available in any color, and you see real samples at your consultation.

Do you build mudrooms in Northern Virginia?

Yes. We serve Fairfax, Loudoun, and Arlington Counties, including Ashburn, Reston, and McLean, alongside our Maryland home base in Montgomery County.
